Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration, "Every Registered Dietitian is a Nutritionist, but not every Nutritionist is a Registered Dietitian". Registered Dietitians are required to have met certain educational and professional requirements in nutrition sciences, including 1200 hours of supervised practice through an accredited dietetic internship program, and must pass the national registration exam. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and CDR approved use of the credential RDN, which stands for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. It communicates that RDs are qualified to treat medical conditions through Medical Nutrition Therapy as well as provide nutritional counseling focused on wellness and prevention. This is a really important difference as credentials mean credibility!

Do you accept insurance for nutrition counseling?

We accept insurance! Nutrition counseling is a benefit for many people whether they have diabetes, heart disease, weight issues or just looking for preventative nutrition care visits. Good Health is contracted with Cigna, United Healthcare, Aetna plans. You may be eligible for out-of-network nutrition services and every plan is different so call your insurance company for an explanation of benefits associated with your policy prior to booking. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance company to see what your benefits include for nutrition counseling such as a copay, coinsurance, deductible and number of visits allowed per calendar year. If you have out-of-network benefits, we will provide a "superbill" for you to submit to your insurance company directly for possible reimbursement. Please contact our office if you have any questions - we're here to help!
